The vast manufacturing industry needs workers with an understanding of composites. This introductory course uses technical knowledge and skills to plan and manufacture projects using composite materials. Students will gain an understanding of basic composites, safe use of equipment and tools, blueprint reading, precision measuring and mathematics, hand and power tools used in the composites industry, and processes and procedures of fabrication.

Working with composites is quite specific to aircraft, and most jobs in this field are in aerospace organizations. Composite manufacturing technicians perform a variety of repetitive operations for the production of composite parts. Their tasks can include cleaning of molds, operating winding machines, and working with chemicals. They place parts in specific relationships to each other and use a variety of power tools; cut clean, and package parts. The technicians operate and tend to automatic and manual processing equipment. Their job also includes working at different workstations as production needs require.

    Math & English Levels: 8th grade math and reading levels recommended.
    Occupation & Licensure Requirements:

    Close toed shoes, no shorts, long hair tied back, jewelry will need to be removed during class time. Working with chemicals poses the possibility of ruining clothes.
